Makin' a Mirror

I have been wanting to make a sunburst mirror for the longest time. I've read a lot of tutorials, but I couldn't really find one that I loved. So, today, I just decided to wing it.

Here's what I used: a beveled mirror ($4.99), red paint ($1.99), a bag of multi-sized wooden slats ($9.99) and a hot glue gun. It got it all at Joann's.

Next, I layed out all the strips behind the mirror to see how many strips I needed to paint. The strips look like wood and the bag said they were wood. But, honestly, they feel more like foam.

Then, I flipped the mirror over and started gluing the biggest size of the strips on the back.

I'd say the hardest part was going back and gluing the smaller strips in between the bigger ones. I didn't leave enough room and I cracked quite a few of these strips in half. Oh well! I just hot-glued them back together and kept on going =)

And there's the finished product! I LOVE the color and I'll be sure to show you when I get it hung in the new house. All in all: a fun, cheap project!

School Projects

I've been busy this summer making some fun little additions to my classroom. I like all things bright and fun and I think all of these fit the bill! Most of these ideas came from other blogs and Pinterest. I decided this summer to actually attempt some of them!

I got this idea from here. What a fun way to display some positive rules for my kiddos to follow! All I need to do is laminate these and hang them up above the behavior clips.

I made this fun little guy to hang outside my door and greet everybody who walks by =)

This one might be my favorite. I love, love The Wizard of Oz! So when I saw this quote here, I pretty much had to make one. I wanted to frame this in red, but a ribbon is much cheaper...

I've noticed that pennants are sweeping blog-land lately, and I'm a big fan. So, I copied this when I found it on Pinterest. Just a fun little sign to sit on the back shelf.

Okay, this is a terrible picture. And my mom thinks I'm crazzzzy for making this. But, I stand by my decision! It will look great hanging in my room and it's so colorful and fun!

And, what's not to love about a Dr. Suess quote?

It's been so fun this summer creating things that I've found online!

I heart Pinterest.

My newest time waster obsession this summer has been Pinterest. Thanks to my friend Melissa, who taught me all about it, I'm now a huge fan! I wanted to show you some pictures that have caught my eye lately...

First up is this awesome chevron coat hanger from http://www.tatertotsandjello.blogspot.com/. LOVE IT!

I'm also obsessed with this mustardy yellow color. Etsy has some amazing pillows and accessories.

I'm really liking all the do-it-yourself sunburst mirrors right now. This one ismade out of spoons! Definitely going to attempt one of these...although, probably not with eating utensils.

Also, Etsy is selling a ton of these chalkboard labels that will stick to basically anything. The best part? They're cheap!

And, lastly, how cute are these bangle bracelets made out of scrapbook paper and Modge Podge???

Have you found anything good on Pinterest lately?

The Good Life

Here are some things you should know about me. In no particular order....

1. I teach First Grade at an elementary school in Nashville, TN. I'm pretty sure I might be the luckiest girl on Earth because I get to spend my days with some sweet, adorable kids and the best co-workers ever. Some of which have been asking me to start a blog. So... they better read this!

The First Grade Team. Love these girls.

2. I have the best family. My mom is my decorating partner-in-crime and she's the reason I spend all my paycheck on lamps and pillows. My dad is the funniest thing ever and I love him so much. And, my little brother Matt plays minor league baseball for the Royals organization. We've spent a lot of time this summer traveling to watch him play.

3. I just bought my first home! Or, town home, technically. I'm so excited! It is brand new and I hopefully will be moving in the first week of August. I've been ETSY shopping and sewing curtains and I am SO pumped. So, expect many decorating posts to come!
Isn't it cute? Or, it will be when it's finished.

Well, I think that's all for now. Stay tuned...
